Diego Aguilar-Canabal (he/him)
Finance & Operations
Diego Aguilar-Canabal is an independent bookkeeping and payroll consultant currently based in Berkeley. Originally from the Washington, DC area, Diego brings a broad background in public policy, journalism, and community engagement, shaped by years of experience across the Bay Area.
After earning a degree in English Literature from Stanford University in 2014 (he was especially proud to accomplish this in his second language), Diego worked as a freelance writer with a focus on land use, transportation, and municipal finance. His reporting has appeared in outlets such as the East Bay Express and Noema. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he worked as an organizer supporting immigrant communities in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District, and later served as Policy Director for Berkeley City Councilmember Terry Taplin, where he led award-winning initiatives on affordable housing, public safety, and environmental justice.
A QuickBooks Certified ProAdvisor, Diego began studying auditing and accounting in 2024, and is currently completing coursework toward CPA eligibility through UC Berkeley Extension. Forward 2050 is pleased to retain the benefit of his analytical skills, policy fluency, and attention to detail.
Raised in a family of Puerto Rican and Mexican immigrants, Diego strives to honor the power of diaspora and inclusion in his work, with a focus on bilingual service.
